4th Huddersfield Golcar Scout Group celebrates its 70th anniversary in July 2021.
The Group was founded on 23 July 1951 and the Group Scout Master at that time was John Ripley – our big hall at the Scout Centre is named after him in remembrance.
We did have several celebratory events planned but these have been postponed to 2022 – when we will celebrate being 71 and the fact that the Group have survived through covid instead.
Luckily restrictions have been lifted just in time for the Cub and Scout Sections to have an overnight on the anniversary weekend which will mark the 70th anniversary in great style. The Scouts slept out under tarps and the Cubs camped for a night after a full day of fun activities. Our Group have done some amazing things over the years and the young people that have come through the Group have gained so much from their Scouting.
Feel free to have a toast to celebrate the occasion – to Golcar Scout Group – to the last 70 years, to the next 70 years and to the best Scout Group ever!
